You just have to put in a little more effort before you can apply the wallpaper to the wall. In this blog we share a number of tips to turn an uneven wall into an even wall. So that you can still enjoy beautiful photo wallpaper on your wall.
Hide minor imperfections with vinyl wallpaper
It is not a miracle cure, but small tears, scratches and dots can be hidden with vinyl wallpaper. Because it is a particularly thick form of wallpaper, irregularities are a lot less noticeable. Larger spots will remain visible. So if you want to be sure of a smooth result, choose one of the solutions below.
Have your wall plastered smooth
Are you very handy, do you have a handyman in the family or do you want to outsource it, it is best to level the wall by plastering it all over again. After a lick of primer on the wall, the stucco can be applied. Make sure that the wall is ready for wallpaper. That also saves money ;-). You may have to sand down the small irregularities with sandpaper. Don’t feel like that? Then choose to have your stucco delivered ready to use. Then you get a smooth and tight end result. When the stucco is dry, you can prime the wall. This way the wallpaper adheres better. Then let the primer dry for at least 8 hours before you start wallpapering.
Working with sandpaper and a putty knife
If plastering a wall is a bit too pricey for you, fortunately there are also other options for smoothing an uneven wall. With some filler and a putty knife you can cover most holes and cracks. And with coarse sandpaper or the sander, you can remove most dots and glue residue with ease. When the grain is topped off, you can first wallpaper your wall with renovlies. This is a kind of ground paper. If any grains still come through, you can sand it a little more. Then you can put the wallpaper over it. If you have a larger surface area with spachtelputz, sanding may be impossible. In that case it’s smarter to make your wall smooth with Fix & Finish or MuurGlad.
Use a smoothing paste to make your wall smooth
With the right products you can smooth any textured wall. For a spachtelputz wall we recommend to use a leveling paste. For example, Muurglad or Superieure Egaliseerpasta from Alabastine. This allows you to completely smooth a wall with irregularities of up to 5 millimeters in one go.
Place a retaining wall
Finally, you can of course also place a retaining wall to eliminate irregularities or damage to the wall. The advantage is that you can also immediately insulate the wall and hide cables. After that you can immediately start wallpapering.Yes, thanks to our tips you now have a smooth, tight wall. You are now all set to wallpaper your wall with your favorite photo wallpaper.
