Leftover wallpaper: don’t throw it away!

Being creative with wallpaper

The job is done: the wallpaper is on the wall. Or maybe on the wardrobe or a door. So now it’s time to clean up and throw away all the wallpaper remnants. Wait! You can do so many creative things with leftover wallpaper that it’s a waste to just throw it away. Reuse the leftovers and give wallpaper ‘a second life’. Because, recycling is hot!

Flag lines

Small pieces of patterned wallpaper are ideal for making a flagline. And it’s super easy, too. Use the same pattern for each flag or choose different wallpaper patterns (or wallpaper samples) for a playful effect.

Cover the inside of your cupboard with wallpaper

You can stick wallpaper on the back of the cupboard, the sides or bottoms of the shelves or the inside of the drawers. For example, with floral wallpaper or photo wallpaper with a baroque print. In no time, you can brighten up your dull cupboard with residual wallpaper.

Wooden or cardboard letters with wallpaper

You probably know them. Those cardboard or wooden letters (on sale at Xenos, for example). Very cute on their own, but they become even more fun if you stick them on wallpaper. For example, choose your son or daughter’s name and use the wallpaper from the children’s room to stick the letters on. And then put them on the windowsill, stick them on the door or put them on a wall shelf.

If you have collected lots of wallpaper scraps, it is also super fun to tinker with wallpaper during a children’s party. Everyone can then stick their own name or initials on leftover wallpaper and take it home.

Custom-made wall shelves

Fruit crates or other wooden crates left over? Cover the inside of the crates with wallpaper and then attach them to the wall. Place some of your favo books in them or pretty decorations and you have one-of-a-kind wall shelves hanging on your wall.

Clipboards or memo boards with wallpaper

This is a great tip to pimp the study nook in your home. Wallpaper several clipboards with different patterns of wallpaper and hang them on the wall. Ideal for keeping important notes, sketches or cards in a fun and creative way. You can also stick our photo wallpaper on a larger memo board to which you then attach rubber bands to hold photos, drawings and letters.

Pimp your envelope

You can also do nice things with small wallpaper scraps. For example, are you having a party or getting married and want to make the envelope of the invitation special too? Then stick wallpaper on the inside and/or the flap of the envelope. Or fold wallpaper envelopes yourself. Then they won’t forget your invitation easily.

Magazines with wallpaper scraps

You can brighten up your magazines with narrow strips of wallpaper. You can choose the same wallpaper pattern for each magazine rack or pick a unique pattern for each family member. So that everyone has his or her own mailbox.

Frame your wallpaper

Reflect your wallpaper in other places in the room by framing your wallpaper. For example, on the wall opposite your wallpapered wall. Stick your wallpaper in a nice passe partout frame for the best effect. Wallpaper remnants are ideal for this.

Don’t throw the wallpaper away straight away, but see if you can still use it for your next DIY project. Not sure yet which photo wallpaper to choose? Then order some wallpaper samples. Then use them to make a nice flag line or to decorate an envelope.
