Photo wallpaper in the kitchen: will it stay beautiful?

Kitchen wallpaper; do or don’t?

You are about to give your kitchen a metamorphosis. Maybe you are going to paint the kitchen cabinets in a different colour or you are completely done with those boring white walls in the kitchen or the tiles on the back wall. Then it’s time to opt for photo wallpaper in the kitchen!

“Will the wallpaper in the kitchen stay nice?” We can almost hear you thinking it. The answer is simple: with the right treatment, you can make your kitchen wallpaper washable so that it stays neat in all circumstances. So even if there are splashes of tomato soup or bolognese sauce on the wallpaper, you can wipe it off in no time with a damp cloth. Without staining or damaging the wallpaper.

How to make kitchen wallpaper washable

If you want to wallpaper a wall in the sink or cooking area of your kitchen, we recommend treating the wallpaper with a special coating: wall finish. This coating is transparent and water-based. That means you seal your photo wallpaper, so to speak. And makes it shock, scratch and scrub-proof. But also dirt-, UV- and heat-resistant. So the ideal solution if you want to wallpaper the back wall of your kitchen.

Make the wall on which you want to apply the coating grease- and dust-free. Meanwhile, stir well the pot of wall finish. Once the wall is clean and dry, you can start applying the coating (undiluted). You go over the wallpaper with a glue brush or 100% lint-free felt roller, in long vertical strips. After 30 minutes, the coating is dust-dry and workable after 6 hours.

Attention! You can only apply the coating 24 hours after wallpapering. Otherwise, the wallpaper glue under your new photo wallpaper will not be dry enough. Also, you may then get blisters and unevenness in the wallpaper. A 3-litre bucket is good for 16 m2 of wallpaper.

Which photo wallpaper fits best in my kitchen?

Actually, any photo wallpaper is suitable for the kitchen. It all depends on the atmosphere you want to create. We have listed the most popular kitchen wallpapers for you.

Traditionally, we have been placing tiles on the back wall of the kitchen as splashbacks. From standard white tiles to coloured hexagon tiles or a splashback made of white marble. Quite an investment and often not the easiest thing to fit yourself. Creating a different look in your kitchen every year is out of the question. With photo wallpaper, you can create the same look, but for much less money. And it is even easier to attach yourself.
